Foster 1800 Vibratory Yard Test

This is a video clip of a yard test of the Foster 1800 vibratory driver at Vulcan Iron Works’ Chattanooga, TN factory where it was made. The driver was the result of a program of Vulcan manufacturing L.B. Foster’s vibratory drivers. The 1800 exciter was built from Foster’s existing specifications, down to the lever type clamp you see in the video.

The power pack was Vulcan’s own design and was adapted from Vulcan’s “A” series drivers (1150A/2300A/4600A.) Previously Vulcan had used power packs from Hydraulic Power Systems Inc. but this relationship ended two years before this video was made.

The video shows the operation of the driver on an H-Beam in the yard. As you can see, the hammer was successful in its operation, but as it was designed was expensive to produce. Vulcan and Foster went on to develop a line of exciters (1050/2100/4200) which addressed the cost and other issues. For more information on these drivers click here.
