Another Vulcan distributor has passed on:
Alfred “Al” Roy Kern, beloved husband, father, grandfather and Pittsburgh businessman, age 89, passed on to be with our Lord on August 29, 2024, peacefully at home in Ocean Ridge, FL.
Al was former President and Chairman of Equipment Corporation of America [ECA], based in Coraopolis, PA and was associated with the company for close to 50 years. He helped grow the company into one of the largest and most respected foundation construction equipment distributors on the East Coast.
ECA was Vulcan’s distributor in the Mid-Atlantic during Vulcan’s last years, and did a good job. Towards the end things became difficult due customer difficulties which were ultimately beyond their control, ECA’s and Vulcan’s, and these contributed to Vulcan passing out of my family’s hand in 1996.
My belated condolences to his son Roy and their family, I only learned of this today.
Interesting side note: Al had a home in Ocean Ridge, FL, just down the road from Palm Beach where I grew up.
